California Hot Doggers

Tehachapi, Calif. — The annual All American 4th of July Hotdog Festival returns wth a patriotic picnic in the park, children’s parade, fireworks display and popular Tehachapi Wiener Run where Dachshunds compete for top dog.

July is National Hot Dog Month, July 23 is Hot Dog Day

  • Californians are the biggest hot doggers in the nation!
  • Joey Chestnut of San Jose remains the World Hot Dog Champ. He’s eaten 69 hot dogs in 10 minutes. He lost the annual July 4 Nathan’s Hot Dog Championship in 2015 but his world record still stands as of this posting, and the professional eater returns to Coney Island in 2016 to compete again.
  • California is known for Pink’s Hot Dogs. The menu includes celebrity tribute dogs.
  • The most expensive hot dog in the world, California Capitol City Dawg,  sold for $145.49 at Capitol Dawg in Sacramento on May 31, 2012.
  • Over 150 million hot dogs are eaten at 4th of July celebrations, making this holiday the most popular day for eating them. California hot doggers scarf down more than 10 million.
  •  Carl’s, Jr. began with Carl Karcher’s hot dog cart in Anaheim.
