San Francisco, which boasts the largest oyster festival on the coast, put its celebration to bed in May. But there are others on the way — California actually has a handful of oyster festivals to enjoy.
Next weekend the 26th annual Arcata Bay Oyster Festival includes the quirky and fun Oyster Calling Contest, followed by the The Point’s Shuck-and-Swallow Contest.
On the very same weekend and opposite end of the state, San Diego’s 7th annual Oyster & Music Festival is filled with two glorious days of music and food at Marina Embarcadero.
Then in July the 5th annual Oyster Festival in Avila Beach includes music and a shucking contest. While admission is $22, the 55+ crowd gets in free.
Finally, Bodega Seafood Festival in August, which is heavy on oysters, helps visitors discover that there are some fantastic oyster bars and restaurants in the surrounding area.
