Arcata Main Street's Annual Arcata Bay Oyster Festival Fun, Food and Frolic on the Historic Arcata Plaza. The Arcata Main Street's Oyster Festival is now the largest one-day event in Humboldt County. Every year, more than 13,000 ecstatic festival goers and community gather on the Arcata Plaza to celebrate and showcase our local aquaculture and savor the delicacies that have earned us the reputation as the Oyster Capital of California. Food lovers will be lured by the salty siren song of oysters, and other fare, while quenching their thirsts with local craft beer, hard apple cider, and locally-made wines, many from locally grown grapes. Taps open at 11am and close at 4:30, so plan ahead! Local chefs will compete for the Best Raw, Cooked Oyster and Non-Oyster awards, while dancers frolic on the grass to live, local music. Kids will want to visit the new FLUPSY (Oyster Nursery) for games and activities, t-shirt coloring, wax hands, balloon creations, giant puppets, concessions, and free ice cream. It's located on 9th Street between H & I St. We also have an expanded Merch Booth on G St. this year, and a bigger than ever Art Market, on H St between 9th & 10th. Both the Art Market and FLUPSY are near our new entrance at the corner of 9th & H St. Don't miss the quirky, ritual Oyster Calling Contest at noon with Dave Silverbrand , then at 2 p.m. contenders will be slamming down bivalves in KWPT The Point's Shuck-and-Swallow Contest. And you don't want to miss the chance to dunk a librarian” for a good cause! Oyster Festival is about celebrating North Coast culture where our merchants, restaurateurs, volunteers and guests embrace locally grown and prepared foods, drinks and art. When you leave the Arcata Plaza, you'll take a renewed appreciation for our home, our marshes and our bay with you. You can also take away some cool gifts from our Oyster Fest Gift Shop!
