Closing urban streets for car-free days provides California’s most populated cities — Los Angeles, San Diego, Sacramento, San Francisco and Oakland (to name a few) — unique and fun opportunities for adults to be kids again. Here are a few interpretations listed in our calendar of events:

  • SAN FRANCISCO: Sunday Streets (seen in photos) occurs multiple times per year, inviting the public to play. 24% of participants ride bikes and 76% do whatever…such as street chalk art, building with blocks, lying down, yoga, tennis, blowing bubbles, walking, talking and sunbathing. Sunday Streets: Sept. 13 & Oct. 18, 2015
  • LOS ANGELES: cicLAvia street closures favor bicycling, though other activities occur on the streets, as well. Several cicLAvia street closures are held each year.   Next cicLAvia: Oct. 18, 2015
  • SAN DIEGO: Tour de Fat bicycling & beer event is an annual fundraising day for special causes. Next: Sept. 26, 2015
  • OAKLAND: Bike Music Festival Sept. 20, 2015
  • CAMPBELL: Cyclemania in Downtown Campbell Sept. 4, 2015
