Travel Shows for Californians on the Go and in the Know
There are three major travel shows in California this Spring in the Bay Area, Los Angeles and San Diego. While consolidation of travel and adventure shows occurred less than a decade ago as news publications such as Los Angeles Times and Orange County Register quit producing such events, Unicomm, LLC, has kept them going in the Golden State, where the secret sauce keeps people coming back year after year.
In addition to California events, the company also hosts travel and adventure shows in half a dozen major U.S. cities, where their formula for success has allowed them to thrive. One of the top draws is exclusive show-only specials and trip giveaways. As we walked out of a show last year we spoke with many people who had purchased travel packages that day. They knew where they wanted to go, were well-versed on pricing, and found rock-bottom prices they couldn’t beat — so they bought right there on the spot!
Some come for the bargains, but others go to learn and gather information. For travel fans watching shows, there’s a handful of “celebrities” you may get to know and listen to at these events. Rick Steves, Peter Greenberg, Pauline Frommer and Samantha Brown are several. This year they’re talking about European travel skills, spending less while seeing more, hidden treasures and beating the airlines, hotels and cruise lines at their own game.
