On December 6, 2015 the Victorian Village of Ferndale lights what some claim is the tallest living Christmas Tree (center photo). It’s a beautiful, 152 foot (approx.) spruce that the Volunteer Fire Department decorates with strings of lights. You don’t have to wait till Christmas to see the tree, however. It is located at the end of Main Street gracing the Humboldt County town with its beauty year round. If you like the look of a flocked tree, in the very same county you can visit the rare albino tree (right). There are believed to be only 24 of these flukes of nature in existence. And for the grandest experience imaginable, head to Sequoia Kings Canyon National Park where Sanger Chamber of Commerce annually makes a field trip to lay a wreath on the world’s second biggest tree (left). The General Grant Tree was declared The Nation’s Christmas Tree in 1926. The tree stands 267 feet high–not the tallest–but its status comes from its weight and the circumference of its trunk.  Christmas Tree facts & trivia are fascinating, as is the history of the Christmas Tree spanning hundreds of years with German roots.

Do you remember when the tree was officially renamed the Holiday Tree? Former Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger pledged he would get the California Capitol Holiday Tree reclassified as a Christmas Tree, and he did.
