Are you looking for some outdoor time this Memorial Weekend?

Join fans from around the globe converging at Camp Oakes in Big Bear (Southern California’s San Bernardino mountains) today, May 26, 2016, through Memorial Day for the annual Astronomy Expo! Orientation for beginners, interesting lectures, swimming, archery, camping and sky watching are among the fascinating and fun activities. Info: rtmcastronomyexpo.org

If you miss this fantastic festival, catch Nightfall, an autumn star party sponsored by the Riverside Astronomical Society. It is held at the Palm Canyon Resort in Borrego Springs from October 27-30, 2016.

Other places to stare at heavenly bodies include free Griffith Observatory (Los Angeles). The facility hosts nightly telescope viewing as weather permits and a public Star Party one Saturday each month. griffithobservatory.org

Another spectacular Star Party takes place in August at Lassen Volcanic National Park’s Dark Sky Festival.

The full moon isn’t expected for Memorial Weekend but when it shines, we’ve put together a list of 10 Full Moon Things to Do.
