For someone who lives in the blue, exploring the 75% of the planet that most of us barely notice, one man’s accomplishments include adventures to rival Indiana Jones.  Captain Scott Cassell is on a mission. The challenge is to circumnavigate the Earth underwater – over 27,000 miles, to become the world’s longest sub-sea scientific transect. Like so many of his missions, there’s a purpose to this seeming madness. The goal is to explore human influence upon the sea and it’s underwater life, discover new species, and to influence a new generation of undersea explorers to communicate and share all their discoveries.

Cassell knows humans can impact the ocean environment. He went undercover and underwater with special equipment to document poachers in Mexican waters. His efforts successfully helped bring down an illegal operation responsible for killing off endangered sea turtles and sharks protected by the Mexican government off the Sea of Cortez. Some compare him to James Bond with his state-of-the-art technology and amazing feats!

Listen as Captain Scott Cassell shares his stories and discoveries about his missions and learn about his manned submersible on Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at 2 presentations at ExplorOcean (explorocean.org) in Newport Beach. Most will be unable to attend, so just visit Casell’s website (underseavoyagerproject.org) to read about his incredible life and feats.
