When thousands converge May 16 & 17, 2015 in Oxnard for the annual California Strawberry Festival with the new Strawberry Smackdown Chef Challenge they are heading to the strawberry capital and most likely will drive past strawberry fields on their way. Oxnard is tops in summer planted acreage supplying 58.3% of the state’s entire crop!  Furthermore, California is the world leader and exporter of strawberries which means that the top 3 growing regions –Oxnard, Santa Maria and Salinas Valley–supply the most strawberries around the globe.

  • Total California strawberry acreage reported for 2015 is 37,438.
  • Mexico acreage is estimated at 21,970 acres in Central Mexico and 5,329 acres in Baja.
  • Florida is estimated at 12,032 acres.
