CHERRIES:  This week marks the height of cherry blossoms nationally, according to National Parks Service, which says April 8-12, 2014 should be peak bloom. To celebrate, the Northern California Cherry Blossom Festival (left photo) begins. San Francisco’s two-week festival held April 12-13 & April 19-20 takes place at the same time the city also hosts the Union Street Easter Parade and Festival on April 20.  Another annual cherry blossom festival takes place in Monterey Park on April 26 & 27. The 17th annual event is held at Barnes Park, admission is free.

APPLES: This week Sebastopol celebrates apples with the Apple Blossom Festival (right photo) on April 12 & 13. The annual event charges $10 admission, except for the free Saturday parade  marching down Main Street from 10 a.m. to Noon,  see appleblossomfest.com.  Sebastopol is among a handful of California cities that celebrate apples with festivals, but the only one we know of  in the state with an apple blossom festival.  When the apples are fully grown and ripe for the picking, come back and enjoy the Gravenstein Apple Fair on August 9 & 10, 2014. Yum.
