Whether you are Jewish, Buddhist or Christian it’s wise to make Christmas plans. Why? It seems like nearly everything is closed on December 25. That doesn’t mean 50+ million residents and visitors will all stay home or stay put in hotels, however.

Christmas Plans List

Gift Shopping & Shipping

  • To ensure gifts arrive by end of day December 24, 2016 Amazon says Free Shipping orders should be made by December 16 and Standard Shipping orders by December 19. One, two day and same day deliveries are available in some areas.
  • Christmas Day gift buying is possible at CVS, Walgreens and Rite Aid, plus some grocery stores. Don’t overlook gift cards sold in most.

Theme Parks & Attractions

  • Beaches, ski slopes and open space state and national parks generally remain open on Christmas.
  • Theme parks open on Christmas include Disneyland, Universal Studios Hollywood, Legoland California and SeaWorld, plus several zoos.
  • The Bunny Museum, CHILL and some specialty attractions are open.

Dining

  • Chain restaurants open this year may include Denny’s and Buca di Beppo, among a handful of options. Check opentable.com and book NOW for fine dining in specific locations.
  • Kung Pao Kosher Comedy, Hornblower Cruises, Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, Medieval Times and Pirates Dinner Adventure offer unique dining.
  • Hotel restaurants are usually open on Christmas.
