PISMO BEACH, CALIF. shares its name with the Pismo clam. Once the epicenter of recreational Pismo clamming, there was a time when close to a million clams were harvested in a month alone — and another 500,000 undersized clams were left behind! The glory days are not forgotten but are actually celebrated each October at Pismo Beach Clam Festival, 70 years strong in 2016! In addition to clam chowder cooking and tasting contest, a massive clam bake and a clam dig, people jam to bands such as Mojo Combo and Steppin Out. You’ll also find them jammin’ on some mighty fine waves at the annual surf competition, part of the event. If you are game for clammin’ and jammin’ get to Pismo Beach Oct. 21-23, 2016.
