Coalinga Horned Toad Derby

The City of Coalinga is known for an earthquake, agriculture, oil and incarceration. But that’s not what the Coalinga Chamber of Commerce is saying! The biggest festival and event of the year in this Fresno County destination this weekend May 22-25, 2015 is the 79th annual Horned Toad Derby! The “horned toad” is neither a toad nor a frog–it’s really a horned lizard. The popular names come from the lizard’s round body and blunt snout, which make it resemble a toad or frog. Either way, you better bring the right critter to the race, part of the festival events that include a carnival, Saturday parade, Kiss a Lamb contest, concerts and LuchaXtreme on the Budweiser Stage.
