Mushroom Mardi Gras is about to take over Morgan Hill for the weekend (May 23 & 24, 2015) and for mushroom lovers, a little background info will help. Like other festivals that have grown out of local farming interests — Castroville Artichoke Festival, Gilroy Garlic Festival and Fallbrook Avocado Festival — Morgan Hill, part of the Santa Clara Valley, has several facilities that contribute to California’s rank of second in the nation in mushroom production. More than 60% of those mushrooms are grown in Santa Clara and Monterey counties. The Santa Clara Valley produces more than 20,000 tons of mushrooms with a total crop value of $61.6 million.

36th annual Mushroom Mardi Gras is a free admission festival offering two days of bands, a carnival, entertainment, kid-focused fun and vendors galore with a smattering of mushroom dishes among the food kiosks.
