Come Where the Horses Go This Week

For an adventure this week go where the horses (and cows) go to fairgrounds, rodeos, street parades and race tracks. Here are a few festivals and events celebrating California’s Western roots. Saddle up for some equine / bovine entertainment!

Education

  • BANNING: Wild West Festival May 19-20, 2018 at Gilman Historic Ranch & Wagon Museum includes Old West reenactments, gold planning, blacksmith.
  • POMONA: From Cows to Concrete May 15-19 is school agriculture program at Fairplex.
  • SANTA ROSA: Ranch Readiness Day May 17-19 at Sonoma County Fairgrounds. A free community event preparing families and animals they love for emergencies.

Fairs

Rodeos

  • ANGELS CAMP: CCPRA Rodeo May 19 at Frogtown Arena. Roughstock Cowboy Tour includes team roping, bull dogging, barrels, bulls, broncs.
  • CASTRO VALLEY: Rowell Ranch Rodeo May 19-20 includes a Chili Cook-Off, Parade, Cowgirl Picnic.
  • NORCO: World Series Team Roping May 19-20 at George Ingalls Equestrian Center. Ongoing Tuesday-Thursday team sorting, team roping and barrel racing.
  • PENN VALLEY: Penn Valley Rodeo May 18-19 at Penn Valley Rodeo Grounds.
  • RAMONA: Ramona Rodeo May 18-20 at Fred Grand Arena includes  slack rodeo performance, jr. barrel racing and Ramona Main Street Parade.
  • REDDING: Redding Rodeo May 16-19 at Redding Rodeo Grounds includes Kids Day, Western Heritage Days,
    Chicks & Chaps Day and Tough Enough To Wear Pink.

Equestrian

  • SANTA ANITA: Preakness Stakes Day, plus Michelada Rumble May 19.
  • DEL MAR: All Arabian Region One Championship Horse Show May 16-20 at the Fairgrounds, plus Sun & Surf Quarter Horse | Surfside Race Place Satellite Wagering Horse Racing.
  • LOS ALAMITOS: Night Time Quarter Horse Racing May 18-20.
