A month before Christmas here come the parades, tree lightings, holiday home tours, pet Santa photos, boat parades, gingerbread homes, concerts and plays… there are so many elements and activities related to this religious holiday, and each event offers opportunities for communities to come together in celebration. Though creches, nativities and living nativities seem less prominent than they once were, these religious displays are cherished traditions for many Christians, and a source of fascination for others. In 2015 one the most interesting collections of creches is on display once again at the annual Elk Grove Living Nativity Christmas Creche. The organizers have more than 500 nativities from around the world made of clay, wood, glass or metal, but they are opening up the event by inviting people everywhere to participate by sharing their own nativities or live musical presentations.
