SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. — 21 years ago what began as an irreverent event organized by the Cacophony Society as a night of Kringle Kaos, has reached epic proportions as a global phenomenon known as SantaCon. The premise is that participants dress in Santa suits and meet up for visits to bars & pubs for holiday imbibing and Santa role playing. Our survey of California’s dozen+ SantaCons for 2015 found most are hosting toy drives and community fundraisers.  The biggest SantaCon in San Francisco where it all began attracts 5,000 or more participant Santas at Union Square Park. At the 2014 SantaCon a con man dressed in a Santa suit robbed a Union Square bank and left with money that didn’t belong to him. The pros to this event are the good deeds that raise money for causes. The cons are the large crowds and merry-makers who can spin out of control after a few beers or cocktails. The con artists are loners, not usually part of a SantaCon.   See  SantaCons…>
