Dana Point Whale Festival
SeeCalifornia.com knows that spring is here when the Dana Point Festival of Whales two-weekend event arrives with much fanfare. A parade, sand sculpting competition, car shows, concerts, cook-offs, whale watching boat tours, lectures and even Wyland art lessons are part and parcel for this year’s celebration.
While it looks like the ducky derby may have been dropped in 2019, there are plenty of other events to fill the spot, such as — Diamond Dig (an annual favorite,) kids fishing clinic, Whale of a Pizza Party at Baby Beach — and so much more!
This year’s Dana Point Festival of Whales runs March 2-3 and March 9-10, 2019.
Get ready for a ton (gray whales can weigh around 40 tons) of whale festivals during the spring migration seen along the West Coast and celebrated in exceptional ways in California. Gray whales make one of the longest migrations of any mammal on earth, swimming more than 10,000 miles roundtrip between nursery lagoons in Mexico to feeding grounds in the Arctic. The whales usually travel within 2.5 miles of the coastline, making their journey one of the few whale migrations visible from the shore.
