HUNTINGTON BEACH, CALIF. — Ducks from Bolsa Chica Wetlands are getting all quacked up this week as they see what appears to be thousands of  ducklings in bulldozers. Not to worry–they are just rubber duckies waiting to take a big bath in the Pacific Ocean on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at the annual Duck-a-thon.  The race to shore starts from atop the Huntington Beach Pier where the sponsored ducks get dumped all at once–perhaps they call it Duck-a-thon because you better duck if you happen to be surfing next to the pier! The little rubber duckies bob their way with the ocean currents back to land where volunteers pluck them from the water with first arrivals declared winners. Their owners (who pay $10)  have a chance to win cash and prizes.  Money raised at Duck-a-thon helps fund health care for those who can’t afford it. The festival is one of many similar duck races throughout California.
