California’s Flashlight Egg Hunts Offer Challenge
Pictured is one of the original flashlight egg hunts at Mariner’s Church in Irvine, known for its 40,000 eggs. Though the church still holds an egg hunt after 7 p.m. they no longer mention bringing a flashlight. However, they continue to make it easy for kids to score some candy-filled eggs so everybody is sure to win. Just be careful you don’t trip on the prize.
I don’t know how many egg hunts you’ve been to, but they can become a little ho-hum. At one in Huntington Beach where 5,000 to 10,000 kids and parents show up, the fantastic community club volunteers who fund the event buy hundreds (or thousands) of pounds of candy and throw it out on the ground for the kids to grab once the rope goes down. There’s not a lot of challenge involved.
Thus comes the innovative Flashlight Egg Hunt sponsored by several cities in California. At one time there was even an egg hunt for adults–SeeCalifornia.com is still trying to track that one down.
