It’s been 22 years since Yanni with his long, flowing hair performed “Live at the Acropolis” in Athens, Greece. A PBS special taping of that concert not only raised $13 million for public broadcasting, but it also created a buzz when “The Lady in Red” with the lightning-fast violin performed. What ever happened to her? Karen Briggs played an instrumental part in the success of the show and continued to work and tour with Yanni for 13 years more.
Yesterday I attended the free Carson Jazz Festival, hoping to see & hear well known saxophonist Eric Marienthal. Beyond my wildest wishes he was performing when I arrived and there was no crowd near the stage so I stood a few feet away as the Grammy winner played many popular hits. During his final set a “Lady in Pink” with a mean violin accompanied him. Her talent was beyond compare! After doing some research I learned that she was Karen Briggs, part of an all female band, Jazz in Pink.
Thank you City of Carson, for putting on such a fantastic, free event and for helping me discover what ever happened to The Lady in Red! Here are more music concerts in October…>
