Get Serious at Surf Festivals

If you see a toddler riding a surfboard while sucking on a baby bottle, don’t be alarmed. It is just the surf culture, and it’s a crack up!  From a guy reading his newspaper in a lawn chair (while riding a surfboard,) to a pretty girl in a bikini and Stetson hat heading out for a wave, you never know what you’ll see or what to expect.   Two of California’s funniest surf fests this season take place at  Dana Point’s Doheny Beach (Doheny Surf Festival,) and Ventura’s Pierpont Beach (Surf Rodeo.) At Surf Rodeo the mission is clear: “We have sat back and watched the world of surfing transform into a highly competitive, cut-throat, serious atmosphere, but now we feel it’s time to giddy up and ride the wave back to our roots. Community and camaraderie are at the core of the Surf Rodeo.”
