GILROY, CALIF.–You can’t ignore that pungent, yet intoxicating aroma when strolling down the midway at the annual Gilroy Garlic Festival held July 25-27, 2014 at Christmas Hill Park. With 100,000 guests expected to attend the event, the popularity of the local crop is undeniable. In this gigantic outdoor kitchen, the ‘Pyro Chefs’ put on a spectacular flame–up show while preparing garlic-?laced calamari and scampi in huge iron skillets. Meanwhile, hundreds of volunteers prepare other Gourmet Alley favorites, including pepper steak sandwiches, pasta con pesto, stuffed mushrooms, and sausage sandwiches, as well as garlic fries and garlic bread.
