Top-selling gifts for kids this holiday season are Barbie for girls and LEGO for boys. Several years ago The Lego Group became the world’s largest toy company by revenue, with sales of $2.1 billion, surpassing California-based Mattel, which had  $1.9 billion in sales.

When you drive by some of the older indoor malls the parking lots look like a morgue most of the time. There’s one such place not far from where I live. I went there once this year to return items I purchased online. I was saddened to see JCPenney store so empty–the busiest place was the bottom floor where shoppers like me stood in line to pick or return merchandise purchased online.

That same mall this week during the Thanksgiving holiday will be packed with cars! More than 165 million people are expected to shop over five-day weekend with Black Friday the unofficial kickoff to the holidays. Holiday sales represent 20-30% of annual retail sales.

Top reasons consumers shop during Thanksgiving

  • 65% say  deals are too good to pass up
