Its location approx. one hour north of Los Angeles gives you the feeling that you’ve escaped the big city with something akin to California’s version of a Hawaiian resort. Among the things to do, in addition to sipping cocktails by the pool next to the Pacific Ocean, you can take a day trip to the Channel Islands to explore the rugged beauty of these national treasures.
This weekend in neighboring Ventura the Street Painting Festival takes place Sept. 13-14, 2014 at the Ventura Harbor. Next weekend is the California Beer Festival Sept. 19-21. If you’d rather find a beach hotel closer to the Bay Area, Pacifica’s Best Western Lighthouse Hotel directly on the beach offers a similar price range.
