Irish Eyes are Smiling at San Francisco, San Diego, Hermosa Beach St. Patrick’s Day Parades

This is a FANTASTIC year. In addition to the bonus Leap Day on February 29,  St. Patrick’s Day falls on Saturday, March 17, 2012, and so do many of the St. Patty’s Day parades, parties and festivals.  Nearly every city and town in California  will be celebrating on Saturday, March 17, 2012. San Francisco has a concentration Irish pubs & bars, and is considered one of the top cities in the U.S. for St. Patrick’s Day fun, though San Diego gives San Francisco a run for its money on a day when everything GREEN is celebrated.

There are three well known St. Patrick’s Day Parades in California held on Saturday closest to St. Patrick’s Day, and amazingly, the parades have the state covered from north to south.

  • San Francisco St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival – 161st Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade  on Saturday, March 17th, 2012, begins at 11:30 a.m. at corner of  Second and Market all the way to City Hall. Largest event west of the Mississippi includes the free St. Patrick’s Day Festival at Civic Center Plaza on Grove Street, Polk to Larkin Street,  from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.  sresproductions.com 
  • Hermosa Beach St. Patrick’s Day Parade  – Begins on March 17, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Pier Avenue & Valley Drive.  7 block parade route begins at Valley Drive, travels down Pier Avenue and ends at the corner of Hermosa Avenue and 10th Street. Call: (310) 376-0951, hbchamber.net
  • San Diego St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 17, 2012 marches down 5th Avenue & Junipero  at 10:30 a.m., with the festival held at Balboa Park all day long. stpatsparade.org

  • San Diego ShamROCK is a Gaslamp Quarter production to rival its Mardi Gras celebration.   • Costa Mesa – Orange County Market Place St. Patrick’s Day   on March 17, 2012 includes dancers from top Irish dance schools in California, entertainment, and lots of shopping and food.
