Iron Lung, Shock Box, Artifacts at Salinas Medical History Museum

Sometimes we wish we were born and lived in another era instead of this reality.  But when you visit the Museum of Medical History in Salinas, you may have second thoughts. A fascinating, dedicated space inside a hospital includes rare medical antiques and more modern remnants of the past–such as an iron lung. The most sophisticated kit of its time to amputate soldiers limbs during the Civil war includes a leather belt and ivory-handled saws, ouch! Then there’s the electric shock box to jolt women out their post-partum blues–oh boy! The museum is open to the public weekdays.
