Julia Morgan-Designed Asilomar Turns 100!

PACIFIC GROVE, CALIF. — Beaches & hotels are within reach at the affordable Asilomar Conference Center.  Next to the fog-shrouded beaches of beautiful Pacific Grove’s Asilomar State Beach is another California State Parks holding–Asilomar Conference Center and Asilomar Hotel, designed by famed architect Julia Morgan in 1913. The lady who was hired by William Randolph Hearst to create Hearst Castle in San Simeon was recommended for the job of designing the one-of-a-kind conference facility in Monterey County along the Monterey Bay. Asilomar was originally built as a camp for the YWCA and lasted as such till the early 1950s.
