Kids Go Fishing

Some parents find it a challenge to promote a sport that you don’t personally take interest in. Others eagerly hope that their kids will fish so they’ll have companions. The California Department of Fish & Wildlife offers this advice: If your child just doesn’t get excited, let it go. Even if you do everything right, fishing is not for everyone. The state fishing agency offers two free fishing days each year for adults — kids under age 16 don’t need a fishing license. If you don’t seize the opportunity to try it out (maybe you need instruction,) then you’ll be glad to know there are fishing events in which children are assisted in baiting, casting a line and recognizing the signs of a bite.
