Kilts, Chaps and Harem Pants

Published on: February 11, 2019

Is it the weekend yet? Not quite — but when it comes, it will flip your kilt at the ScotsFestival and Highland Games Feb.16-17, 2019 on the grounds and inside the ship at Queen Mary in Long Beach. From tasty foods to high-spirited beverages, marching bagpipe bands to men (and women) in kilts performing tricks like caber toss, hammer throw and shot put, you and the kids will be amazed.

Whiskey’s definitely a theme going on this weekend as you can also enjoy another type of entertainment with different sports, clothes and culture at Whiskey Flat Days in Kernville Feb.15-18. Themed “Boots, Chaps and Cowboy Hats,” highlights of this event held every Presidents Day Weekend include a Parade, Wild West Daze Rodeo, Wild West Encampment, Carnival Rides, Frog Jumping Contests, Whiskey Flat Mayor Contest, Epitaph, Costume and Whiskerino Contests, Line Dancing, Pet Parade, Gunfighter Skits and much more!

If neither of these events appeal to your entertainment tastes, maybe you’ll enjoy Palm Desert Greek Festival, known for its signature Mediterranean foods cooked over open fires. Lamb is among our favorites at this event held Feb.16-17.

Chinese New Year is on tap in Downtown San Diego Feb.16-17, with the Lion Dance, Asian entertainment and something called Story Theater. Along those lines, Santa Monica Place hosts Lunar New Year Celebration Feb.16 with K-Pop and Korean Fan Dancers, music and Wishing Trees. In Ventura over 7,500 lanterns light up the night for the Lantern Street Festival Feb.16.

African American entertainment includes Black History Parade & Festival in Pasadena Feb.16, while Black Choreographers Festival Feb.16-17 takes place in San Francisco.

Finally, don’t forget Date Festival¬†Feb.15-24, paying homage to Arab culture with camel races and the veiled Queen Scheherazade dressed in harem pants appearing in Arabian Nights Musical.
