Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebrations, Free Parks Admission

While people across the U.S. celebrate Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birthday with walks, marches, community service and concerts this weekend, the 3rd Monday in January is a federal holiday and “no school” day to honor the American civil rights leader who was assassinated in 1968.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Events

  • CALIFORNIA NATIONAL PARKS: One of America’s favorite celebrations is National Park Service free admission, which is the first fee-free day of several throughout the year. The event coincides with a partial government shutdown in 2019, but the majority of national parks in California appear to be open. Check before you go for certain restrictions!
