Loving that Beach House in Half Moon Bay

Published on: November 04, 2012

There are all kinds of beach vacations and beach hotels along the California coast, but there’s only one Beach House in Half Moon Bay. When you want stay in a place with the look and feel of house and beach at your beckoning call, you’ll find it in the funky beach town (Half Moon Bay) that has slightly escaped the hands of time. While Silicon Valley techies know about the Beach House and stay there for mini-conferences, don’t let it stop you from taking your low-tech vacation where you can just kick back and enjoy life. The coast in this location is known for the big wave Mavericks  where top surfers from around the globe come to ride the Big Ones, 50 footers or more! Hotels fill up in the spring when the contest date is announced, but you’ll usually find a room in this scenic getaway, especially when you book ahead.

The Beach House is one of a variety of coastal options that include the ritzy Ritz-Carlton Half Moon Bay and affordable Best Western. Beach House rooms and suites include creature comforts, commanding views of the Pacific, and a private gate from the beach to the hotel offering easy access to sunbathing, surfing, kayaking, and all the fun things people do.

Half Moon Bay in San Mateo County is south of San Francisco and north of Santa Cruz.  They just held the big Art & Pumpkin Festival but there’s much to see, do, eat and drink when you stay. Among our favorite haunts is Cameron’s, a British style pub with a small store selling import food items from UK. In the old-fashioned downtown  you can pick & choose a variety of dining minus the chain stores and restaurants.
