Mavericks Call Alert: Potential Swell

When there’s a storm brewing in the Pacific plenty of people pay attention and none quite so enthusiastically as participants of Mavericks Big Wave competition. Titans of Mavericks (titansofmavericks.com), the official name of the event, is unique among surfing festivals. It takes place off the California coast near Half Moon Bay (by invitation only) for the world’s strongest and best surfers. On Jan. 1, 2016 Titans of Mavericks called an Alert for a Potential Swell. 11 Bay Area surfers and 4 Southern California surfers are among the qualifiers for this season:

- Colin Dwyer – Pacifica
- Derek Dunfee – La Jolla
- Grant Washburn – San Francisco
- Nathan Fletcher – San Clemente

- Rusty Long – San Clemente
- Ryan Augenstein – Santa Cruz
- Ryan Seelbach – San Francisco
- Shane Desmond – Santa Cruz
- Tyler Fox – Aptos
- Zach Wormhoudt – Santa Cruz
- Travis Payne (alternate) – Pacifica
