HALF MOON BAY, CALIF. — Nic Lamb of Santa Cruz, the youngest surfer to ever tackle fierce Mavericks when he was just 14, won the 2016 big wave competition on Feb. 12. An elite, invitation-only group of world class surfers who have experience with large, dangerous waves were invited to get to the West Coast near San Francisco for the contest where 30-40 foot waves were predicted. How dangerous are the waves? Lamb said, “any time this wave breaks, it is life or death, man vs. nature.”
The professional surfer, actor and model who competes in the World Surf League (WSL) Big Wave Tour has been an alternate at Mavericks annual contest in past years. In the WSL he was #4 at the start of 2016, dropping from the #1 position. Kudos to the home town boy from Surf City!
