AVALON, CALIF. — Mt. Ada is the luxury home on Catalina Island which belonged to William Wrigley Jr. and wife. Once a year it opens its doors to the public for the Holiday Open House which is on Dec.7, 2017. For those who want to spend more time, you can book one of several rooms (approx. $400-up.)  or simply dine at the restaurant with forever views. See visitcatalinaisland.com. There are holiday home tours throughout the state, including Christmas tours of the luxurious Hearst Castle.

In addition, many house museums host holiday open house events inviting the public to step back in time and see what Christmas may have looked like when the properties were first built, often 100 years ago.

In 2017 events are being held at Greystone Mansion in Beverly Hills, Camarillo Ranch, Chico’s Bidwell Mansion, Fern Cottage in Ferndale, Patterson House in Fremont, Bembridge House in Long Beach, Heritage Square in Los Angeles, Dunsmuir-Hellman Estate in Oakland, Haas-Lilienthal House in San Francisco, Winchester Mystery House in San Jose, Banning Museum in Wilmington, Filoli in Woodside, and many, many more!
