Morgan Hill, Calif. — Passing through the area south of San Jose one Memorial Weekend, we exited Highway 101 looking for some grub and rest stop amenities. We happened upon the Morgan Hill Mushroom Mardi Gras, which typically attracts thousands of people. The line up of bands is a high point to this 3-day, free extravaganza which launched as a reflection and tribute to the local, commercial mushroom industry. The 40th annual Mushroom Mardi Gras May 25-26, 2019 features tribute bands performing music of Maroon 5, Steely Dan, Chicago, Bruno Mars, Boston, Santana and many more.
Mushroom & Music Festival
McCloud, Calif. — The free Memorial Weekend festival features similar events to Morgan Hill, but with mountain charm. Nestled on the southern slope of beautiful Mount Shasta, visitors to this free festival May 25-26 enjoy bands performing, chefs’ demos and special mushroom dinners. With its own personal twist, this mushroom event pays homage to wild mushroom hunting that occurs every spring in and around McCloud.
Bishop, Calif. — With the spectacular Eastern Sierra as its playground Bishop touts that a few miles away in either direction peaks tower to 14,000 feet, giving this 4,000-foot elevation destination a truly spectacular setting. Mule Days is a highlight of the year with BBQs, Western appeal, country & cowboy bands, and the star attraction — mules! Among the excitement at the Tri-County Fairgrounds there’s a 6 Up Mule Hitch Challenge, Majestic Romano & 20 Mule Team Meet and Greet. Mule Days 50th anniversary is May 21-26, 2019. The festival describes itself as “tough to explain if you’ve never attended…it’s part serious competition, part wild-west show and ALL fun for everyone!”
