National Holiday on Monday

Monday, January 20, 2014:  Martin Luther King (MLK) Day is a national holiday in which government offices are closed and mail is not delivered. In California the kids will be out of school and postal workers are among those who will take a break. In several states there are different celebrations on MLK Day. Civil Rights Day State holiday takes place on Monday in Arizona and New Hampshire. The potato state is celebrating Idaho Human Rights Day. Meanwhile, the  states of Alabama, Arkansas and Mississippi celebrate Robert E Lee’s Birthday. (Lee was best known as General of the Confederate Army during the Civil War but previously fought and was injured in the Mexican-American War which secured present day California as part of the U.S.)  See events in California that include parades and service days.
