National Night Out 2019 takes place on Tuesday, August 6. The annual event held on the first Tuesday in August since 1984 encourages the public to organize neighborhood events or attend local gatherings produced by cities, towns, neighborhoods and sometimes even counties.

California participant registration has grown in 2019 to more than 420  events listed on National Night Out, while the non-profit organization claims 38 million people participate nationally (and outside the U.S.)  Among the organization’s programs are an awards competition for participating members, and Dog Walker Watch, which encourages some 75 million dog owners across the nation to assist local law enforcement as extra eyes and ears while out walking their dog.
