Sacrabanana! Don’t miss the banana boat this week as Little Mr. & Miss Banana vie for top honors at Sacramento’s Banana Festival Aug.10-11, 2019 in William Land Park. Celebrating places around the world where bananas grow, the two day festival has included Banana Limbo, Banana Eating Contest, a Banana Parade and beloved banana foods.

For those who LOVE bananas, tasty items that come to mind include banana cream pie, banana bread & muffins, banana pudding, banana smoothies and a delicious concoction, banana mango ice cream, a specialty found at the International Banana Museum in Mecca, Calif. some 525 miles distance southeast of the Sacramento Banana fest.

Known for its frozen banana on a stick, Balboa Island in Orange County is the year-round go-to place for this treat. Sugar ‘n Spice on Marine Avenue has been serving “The Original Frozen Banana” since 1945!

Fans of the banana split, a dessert which includes a sliced banana topped with scoops of ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate, nuts and several maraschino cherries on top, may find them in a variety of places throughout California. But the big event where you’ll split your pants if you eat too much typically happens in springtime at Donner Downhill Ski Area in Truckee. The event invitesĀ guests to devour a 200-foot banana split near the slopes. Holy smokes!

There are many months ahead till that festival usually in March, so you won’t want to miss Port Hueneme Banana Festival just around the bend on Sept.28. The event celebrates the port’s import-export business which includes bananas arriving at the Cali Coast, then heading for all parts north, south and east.
