Hundreds of cities throughout the U.S. celebrate National Night Out on the first Tuesday in August which falls on August 4, 2015 this year. If you’d like to attend a local event, meet your law enforcement reps and maybe get some free hand-outs, go to your local city website and see if they are hosting an event.

- Burglaries usually occur in the daytime when people aren’t home, and the top items of interest burglars want to convert into cash are small and expensive objects and money.
- 28% of residents are home during burglary.
- 85% of burglaries are by non-professionals who are more desperate and dangerous.
- Break in tools of choice include screwdrivers, pliers, pry bars and small hammers.
- Men under age 25 are the most common perpetrators and most target homes within a few miles of their own home.
- According to the FBI, the average dollar loss per burglary in the U.S. is $2,185.
