Navy Vietnam Veteran Glenn Blackway volunteered to play Taps during the one-month run of the Orange County Fair (ocfair.com) in Costa Mesa. His moving ceremony isn’t what you’d expect — the professional musician who performed Taps at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C., plays the music on a harmonica, just as it was often done during the Civil War. (It’s usually heard on trumpet.) His story on how it was created and first came to be played is presented before his performance. Fair attendees have told Glenn that it moved them to tears and made them proud to be an American.
