Some cities in California devote time at Council meetings to introduce shelter pets and ask the public to adopt them. At a meeting in my town a citizen asked why pets are getting so much attention and not the homeless humans. Not every pet is pampered as evidenced by the huge number of animals in rescue shelters. It’s OK to pamper pets as long as you don’t kill them with kindness by overfeeding. At Halloween it is also important to not feed pets trick or treat candy when taking them out on the town to pet parades & pet costume contests.
1. Trick-or-treat candies are not for pets.
2. Don’t leave pets out in the yard on Halloween.
3. Keep pets confined and away from the door.
4. Keep your outdoor cats inside several days before and several days after Halloween.
5. Keep Halloween plants such as pumpkins and corn out of reach.
6. Don’t keep lit pumpkins around pets.
7. Keep wires and electric light cords out of reach.
8. Don’t dress your pet in a costume unless you know they’ll love it.
9. Try on pet costumes before the big night.
