  • RIVERSIDE: It’s a fact that the first Navel orange tree in the U.S. was grown in Riverside. If you could roll back the clock 50-75 years, Southern California’s landscape contained miles of orange groves with blossom scents filling the air. At California Citrus State Park in Riverside, the public is invited to Citrus Sampling on Sunday, February 23, 2014 at 2 p.m. Meet at the Visitor Center, Museum, and Store to sample over 20 wonderful varieties of citrus at this delicious gathering. The event is free, while parking is a $5 fee. Location: 9400 Dufferin Ave., Riverside, CA
  • LA VERNE:  Just one county west of Riverside in the nation’s most populated county (Los Angeles,) the city of La Verne invites you to come pick your own.  Heritage Park is home to a grove of approx. 150 trees where the fruit is reportedly sweet & juicy this year. ‘Slice of La Verne’ sponsored by the Heritage Foundation is one of the last working orange groves in the area providing a place to enjoy with your family. The cost to pick oranges is $5 per mesh bag–they supply the picking poles. Open Saturdays beginning January 4, 2014, and continuing approximately through mid March, hours are 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. Call (909) 593-2862,  laverneheritage.org
