Pirate Invasion

Pirates are invading Vallejo this week at the Northern California Pirate Festival June 20-21, 2015.  The twisted sister to Renaissance faires, there are fewer pirate festivals in California and slightly less authenticity in costumes and activities. That’s what makes these events so much fun, however. Anything goes as far as costumes and character roles at pirate events. In the media pirates have broad appeal as witnessed by all the Jack Sparrows (character in left photo) running around. The 4th Pirates of the Caribbean Disney film grossed over $1 billion and the fifth in the sequel, Dead Men Tell No Tales, is being filmed in Australia and is expected to be released in July 2017. Jack Sparrow played by Johnny Depp has helped boost the sales of pirate costumes, makeup and profits at entertainment companies furnishing Sparrow pirate characters for parties and events. If you can’t make it to the Northern California Pirate Festival, the next weekend, June 27-28, head for Southern California’s Pirate Invasion of the Belmont Pier.

In the fifth “Pirates” movie Jack Sparrow finds the winds of ill fortune blowing even more strongly when deadly ghost pirates led by his old nemesis, the terrifying Captain Salazar (Bardem), escape from the Devil’s Triangle, determined to kill every pirate at sea … including him. Captain Jack’s only hope of survival lies in seeking out the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.
