Prediction: Long, Hot California Summer

If the record breaking heat is any indication of what type of summer it’s going to be, prepare yourself. Dave Shenkman, owner of Kite Connection store on Huntington Beach Pier, recently provided a video of the hail storm that looked like snow at this very beach shown (Huntington). During the weekend heat wave he reported that his Kite Party festival was a little flat. Why? There was no wind as the temperature soared to over 90 degrees at Southern California beaches. The heat wave has lasted several days and lifeguards have had to schedule extra help in the pre-summer season in which they seldom see the kinds of crowds they’re experiencing in 2015. Near Disneyland the temperature reached 96, driving Anaheim theme park guests to shady spots. Northern California wasn’t immune to the heat either–San Francisco, Sacramento, Stockton and Modesto all set new records at 84 degrees. SeeCalifornia’s beach reporters covering last year’s weather news noticed the traditional June Gloom did not happen in 2014. The heat came in blowtorch waves and didn’t stop until around November. This year is shaping up to be even hotter.
