Rain Doesn’t Cancel Spring Break

Spring Break has already begun for USC, and the rest of California’s universities and state colleges are taking time off mid-March through April 1, 2018. If you picked a vacation to Southern California like so many out-of-state tourists we’ve seen at the beaches this week, you probably are complaining that it’s too cold, too cloudy, and there’s even rain. That’s just how our beaches can be this time of year, so if you’re looking for heat, you won’t get any guarantee here.

Perhaps that’s why California doesn’t typically rank as the top destination when college students choose spring vacations. In fact, some California destinations have made conscious decisions in the past (such as Palm Desert) to discourage spring breakers, due to the crowds overwhelming their resources.

Though a number of publications make up lists of the Spring Break hot spots, each has a bias.

So where will you be on Spring Break? If you’re a Californian staying in-state, you probably won’t mind the rain too much. It beats the heck out of the prospect of permanent water rationing, proposed in AB 1668, to impose a mandatory limit of specific gallons per person per day on indoor water consumption. That’s just one proposal of several to be considered.
