More Than 10,000 Enjoy 15th Annual Redondo Beach Surf N Turf Lobster Festival

By Chris MacDonald, Writer/Photographer & The Local News Columnist

More than 10,000 people had fun at the 15th Annual Redondo Beach Surf N Turf Lobster Fesitval by the Seaside Lagoon, September 24-26. They enjoyed the delicious steak, lobster, fried calamari, roasted corn, sausages, cobbler deserts and much more. This was the first time organizers added steak to the menu.

There also were carnival games, artists, vendors, crafts and even mechanical bull rides.

Event Director Pete Moffett of Moffett Productions said he added steak, a carnival, the bull and other things to lure the public to the exciting attraction.

Coordinated by the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce, the fun festival had live entertainment, musicians, dancing and even legendary KLOS 95.5 FM broadcasts.

My thanks to Marna Smeltzer, Karin Kartounian and their staff for putting this on. Sponsors who made it happen were The City Of Redondo Beach, Budweiser, Guitar Center, Los Angeles Magazine, Ford and All Area Access Tour Ford. If you’d like to get involved in Next Year’s event please call: (310) 376-6911. Ask for Marna.

Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce hosts many events throughout the year but the Lobster Festival and Super Bowl Sunday 10K/5K, Baby Buggy Run are several of its largest events.

Editor’s Note: While the 2009 Lobster Festival included a swimsuit fashion show, the 2010 event introduced the Mechanical Bull attraction. Each year the event is different and well worth attending. We can’t wait to see what the 2011 Redondo Beach Lobster Festival will offer!

Nice story & event coverage from Chris MacDonald–I love the mechanical bull photo! Way to go, and that’s no bull.

Thanks for the spectacular photos and great story on my favorite festival in California. I look forward to it every year. The lobster was delish and the new steak was fabulous. I highly recommend you check this out next year. Elsie

Riding that bull at the Lobster Festival was no easy task. I thought I had a good grasp of the situation until after a few seconds, I flew off and landed on my head. My girlfriend, Heather, shouted out, “Nice to see you’re using your head for a change, Telly!” Thanks for the memories with that classic pic. Telly

Do you know when the 2011 Lobster Festival will be held?

In Southern California, the Lobster festivals include rock bands, pirates, a mechanical bull ring, swimsuit fashion shows, and vendors selling all sorts of other foods, as well.
