The day after Christmas is a big day in San Diego. It’s a perfect day for kids and adults to enjoy the Port of San Diego Big Bay Balloon Parade (also known as Holiday Bowl Parade,) marching down North Harbor Drive on December 26, 2019 at 3 p.m. To launch the parade, there’s a 5K Run/Walk 15 minutes before the parade starts. The parade is free to see and often includes 28 balloons or more–which has qualified it as “America’s largest balloon parade” in past years.

Billed as part of San Diego’s Biggest Holiday Party, the event takes place before the Holiday Bowl which features college football’s most competitive conferences, the Big Ten and the Pac-12.

This year the game pits USC Trojans against Iowa Hawkeyes on December 27. This ticketed event includes lots of activities (a Tailgate Party, Pre-game Party & Pre-game Show, Half-time entertainment and The Big Flag.)

The Big Flag is an annual tradition and beloved addition to this signature San Diego celebration. There’s pageantry, parachutes, heart-pounding performances by both university marching bands and the football field size American Flag that simply wows the fans.

While many shop for bargains and return gift items after Christmas, California is an adventure land of theme park fun, mountain skiing, ocean surfing, desert hiking and so much more. Live life large!
