San Jose Streets

Today San Jose temporarily closed streets to motorized traffic in an event called  Viva CalleSJ. California’s third largest city has joined the ranks of Los Angeles, San Francisco and San Diego to offer a car-free day where people can come out and play.  City of San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo, councilmembers and other elected officials offer opening remarks on Oct. 11, 2015 during the event which goes from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., sanjoseca.gov

  • Route: Six miles from Downtown’s Saint James Park through Market Street / First Street, along the Calle Willow Business District, and then east along Keyes / Story Road to Emma Prusch Park.
  • Strollers, scooters, skaters, walkers and bicyclists are all welcome as attendees find entertaining activities along the route.
  • Entertainment at hubs includes resource booths, hydration stations, bike repair, and food trucks from Moveable Feast.
  • Free bike helmets,  meet and greet with Danny the Dragon and small animals from the zoo, a BMX trick show, an Aztec dance group, Super Bowl Champion Eric Wright and Olympic gold medal skater Kristi Yamaguchi are among the featured guests and attractions at the event.
