Scarecrow Contests and Festivals in California

Scarecrows are created by farmers out of straw and hay to scare away birds from fields containing fruits and vegetables the pesky critters  love to eat. Decorated with hats, clothing and other objects to make them look human, the scarecrows sometimes work, though you often may see a crow sitting on the head of a scarecrow in a field. Oh well.

Californians have taken a liking to scarecrows, nevertheless, and have turned them into an art form and holiday tradition, especially popular around Halloween. There are many scarecrow contests and festivals coming around the bend in 2013. Here are a few cities where we have found them:
